 Coming from a family of bankers, Philippe Clicquot founded the Clicquot brand in 1772. At the untimely death of François (son of the founder), Barbe Clicquot Ponsardin, his widow of 27, took the management of the company.  Dom Ruinart had acquired the conviction that this "wine of bubbles", born from the vines of his province, was promised a good future.
